Born in Lyon France in 1900, Antoine de Saint-Exupery dreamed of flying as a young boy, and in the 1920s, he earned his wings from the French Air Force. A true renaissance man, he was a poet and a journalist, all while working as a commercial pilot. In 1943, Antoine returned to the French Airforce amid WWII, only after petitioning endlessly for an exemption due to his age. He left on a reconnaissance mission in 1944, never to return. There is no record of Saint-Expurey wearing an IWC pilot watch but the Antoine de Saint-Exupery Foundation began a partnership with IWC in 2005, supporting children and adolescents who face difficult circumstances.
Today, that relationship continues with the Le Petit Prince IWC editions named after the famous children’s story written by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. This model is the double chronograph featuring a minute, hour, and running second subdial, as well as the rattrapante pusher at 10:00 which is a split second timer making it able to record two separate events. The dial has a distinctive dark blue hue with a jumping star that moves daily. Limited to 1,000 units, this is truly as unique a piece as it is exclusive.
